About Me

Hey, I am Chris Schmetz from Marburg/Germany. Since 2006 I have been traveling the world with my camera. Growing up in a region with six days of snow in winter – if we are very lucky – I always wondered why some people love the winter. So, I decided to learn it in the real, proper way and applied for a study programme at the University of Lapland for autumn 2011.

My initial expectations were fully met. I could experience temperatures below -35 degrees and days with little daylight. Quite surprisingly I wasn‘t shocked by such conditions. Quite the contrary! I begun to like frosty temperatures and piles of snow. In the end I decided to extend my stay for another term, taking the opportunity by the hand to make my first steps towards Kola-Peninsula where I irretrievable developed my Arctic Infection.

I travel on a very regularly basis to different areas of the world. If you would like to join my other trips, feel very welcome to visit:
